RSVP Home Care offers respiratory therapy and medical equipment for patients with Alveolar Hypoventilation. Alveolar Hypoventilation is a rare disorder where the infant or child doesn’t breathe as often as necessary. This can be especially troubling at night.

What Is Alveolar Hypoventilation

Although there is no known cause of Alveolar Hypoventilation, some children are predisposed to the condition because of genetic disorders. In a normal functioning respiratory system, a child’s brain will receive signals to breathe when the oxygen level is low or the carbon dioxide level is too high. Children with Alveolar Hypoventilation don’t receive these signals and therefore don’t breathe as often as needed. Complications can occur such as sleep apnea and in extreme cases corpulmonale (right sided heart failure).

Symptoms of Alveolar Hypoventilation

Medical Equipment for Patients with Alveolar Hypoventilation

What is a Ventilator

A Ventilator is a machine that will help your child breath. It is often used in Alveolar Hypoventilation to control the breathing and help raise oxygen levels and remove carbon dioxide. The ventilator will push oxygen into your child’s lungs through an E.T. Tube (endotracheal tube). Your baby will breathe out naturally. The ventilator will also keep the alveoli which are tiny air sacs in the lungs slightly filled so they don’t collapse. RSVP supplies ventilators and other medical supplies to patients with chronic lung disease in Northern Kentucky, Lexington, Louisville and Cincinnati Ohio. If you need information or assistance we are available 24/7 to help in an emergency. Call RSVP Home Care and we will be happy to serve you.
